Microsoft Locks Default to Edge and Bing in Windows 10 S

Windows Edge

A few days ago, specifically May 2, Microsoft released a new Surface Laptop which bundled a locked-down operating system Windows 10 S, in this new OS, there are several limitations in using the apps inside, including the browser and search engine are tied to Edge and Bing.

Yes, it’s no doubt, you heard it right that you only can use the default web browser and search engine – Edge and Bing in this new Windows operating system, which can’t be altered to others like Google Chrome; and moreover, you can only install apps from the Windows app store in this OS, if you can’t find the app you want from the store, you will have to choose other similar application which is available on the store.

Is it acceptable for you or not? Microsoft explained about this new OS that “We believe Microsoft Edge and Bing provide the best and most secure experience on Windows 10 S”, “Customers are in control of their Windows experience and users who prefer to install apps from outside the Windows Store and modify default settings can choose Windows 10 Pro instead.”

This Windows 10 S serves as as a new education-focused version for the students, if you cannot accept the limitation in this version, you can choose to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
